DO It YOURSELF: Internet Radio Program "Live From Main Street", by ‘Digital Dramatist’ James Gibbs
Playwright/filmmaker James Gibbs is a Bronx native who has the demeanor of someone who's hung around boxing rings, eternally perplexed by our pop culture, and the solemnity of a hole-in-the wall bar. And he has the scowl to prove it. A prolific dramatist, Gibbs has primarily written for the stage, but over the past couple of years has grown frustrated with the limitations of what the theater can offer him. His Internet radio program,… Continue

Celebrate Originality, Give The Bird To Bullying
Gravity defying hair, a quirky taste in clothing, and not-so-conventional interests are unique characteristics to be celebrated. It’s not every day you come across someone that stands above the crowd like an ink spot on crisp, white paper. Those very things that make me special however brought me grief. Rather than commemoration I became a victim of what millions of Americans suffer through daily – bullying.

Afro-punk Festival 2011 Cancelled for This Weekend
Afro-punk Family, though we have tried everything in our power to maintain the dates of the Afro-punk festival this weekend despite the expected hurricane, after numerous meetings with the city, parks department, our sponsors and countless others, we are unable to move forward with the festival this weekend. The expected inclimate weather poses a great safety risk for all participating/attending, and subsequently we have been instructed to cancel the outdoor festival.Added by AFROPUNK on August 26, 2011 at 11:09am — 46 Comments
AP Fest Interview: Tamar-kali, The Not So But So Afro-punk Poster Kid - Revisited
Almost one year to date, Afro-punk sat down to speak with someone no stranger to the AP movement: Brooklyn powerhouse and songstress, Tamar-kali. Tamar is most noted for her highlighted appearance in the 2003 Afro-punk documentary, which undeniably spearheaded the Afro-punk genre into a household term where black kids who identified with alternative music and culture finally found there home. Eagerly… Continue
INTERVIEW: Shahidah Omar - Liberation Through Blended Sound
Shahidah Omar's sound blends so many genres in one it seems almost effortless, leaving one to question how to categorize it. Is she opera, trance, dance, soul, house, classical with a twist? The only conclusion is that Shahidah has truly carved out a sound all her own. Her current album includes high energy dance inducing cuts such as "Freedom", "People of the world" and "Live my dream". These are countered… Continue
