'Black Traffic'. That's the title of classic UK rock band Skunk Anansie's upcoming album, to be released on September 17 (the first to be released through their own label, in partnership with 100% Records). Lead singer Skin says it better: "We've wanted to be in charge of our own destiny for many years. The doom and gloom merchants may whine about the music industry, but we've seen it as a positive chance to re-invent how we work and take more control over our art form. (...)…

What the HELL does the Super Bowl have to do with Afro-punk you ask? Get over yourself and quit whining already! :-P For starters, Cee Lo Green (who was on last year's Afro-punk Festival line-up) got to share his badassness on stage, font and center. That's not all: featured performer Madonna also invited M.I.A. (a fave with AP readers) - who ended up giving the middle-finger to the millions of viewers, but we wouldn't expect less from her (see video below).
Overall, a very…

With the recent release of Red Tails, there has been a lot of discussion about the ongoing lack of people of color in Hollywood and what to do about it. It’s cute that George Lucas thinks he can change the game with some awesome special effects (wrapped in a gossamer-thin plot), but finding a place in the mainstream market with big-budget blockbusters is really just as well. In other words, you're gonna have to wait to know exactly when, ok? Monae also stated that she will be touring "with some really big artists". Stay tuned...…
