Bring on the Revolution! 10 Tracks to Get You Psyched For May Day. #SoundCheck

For much of the world May Day is celebrated as an international worker's holiday. In America May 1st is Loyalty Day. No. Seriously. While most countries are celebrating worker's rights and international solidarity, in the Land of the Free® we celebrate obedience to the state. But cities across the country are holding their own May Day celebrations. In New York a coalition of Immigrant Rights groups, Unions, and Occupy are organizing a day of action and a march to promote…

Bloc Party get back to their roots on the new “Four” and the results are explosive. #SoundCheck

It's been four years since Bloc Party's last record, the electro-infused Intimacy. In that time lead singer Kele Okereke set off on a dance solo project, and the band threatened first with a break-up then a possible future without Kele. Though four years since a successful and well-received album hardly qualifies as a “comeback,” Bloc Party clearly has something to prove on the new Four.

Bloc Party's first record, Silent Alarm, is one of the few…

AP Quickie: Kele Fired From Bloc Party?

WTF is going on? :-P Kele Okereke told NME.com that his bandmates from Bloc Party went into the recording studio without inviting him or letting him know about it. "I hope I haven't been fired. I don't really know what's going on, because we haven't really spoken recently and I'm a bit too scared to ask", he reportedly said. Whether he's fired or not, it must be strange to be in a band that doesn't let you clearly know if you're still a member, dontcha… Continue

Kele's New Animated Video - "On The Lam"

It's been a big year for Bloc Party's Kele Okereke. He's released his first solo album, been performing his ass off and talked more openly about his homosexuality. The brand-new video "On The Lam" (single out Oct. 25th) features him interacting with vibrant animated backgrounds, which seems like a good fit for the song's upbeat techno vibe. Not sure if Bloc… Continue

Black People Rock!

I 'm so glad I found this site. I've felt like such a weirdo for liking rock music until now. I really love the growth of Black rock getting attention in the past couple of years from Robert Randolph to Black Kids. Except for my crazy best friend, no other Black person I knew liked rock- well, rock that isn't soft. I like Coldplay and John Mayer, but come on. There's more out there. I'm so glad I don't have to explain who Santogold is here. She's awesome! Speaking of Coldplay, she opened… Continue
