NEW MUSIC: Bodega Dream Mix Hip-Hop, Indie Rock and Politically Charged Lyrics On The Impressive 'EP 2' #SoundCheck

Life and death loom large on Bodega Dream's appropriately titled 2nd EP, EP 2. The band balances indie rock and hip-hop with depth and passion over 4 tracks. Opening with the struggle against hopelessness anthem of “Polaroids,” frontman Darion Ray Kelley jumps back and forth between frustration and a repeated refrain to “hold on, hold on.” That frustration curdles into exhaustion on “New York Times.”

The apocalypse is coming, “The New York Times said the raging fire will…

For those who have truly kept their finger on the pulse of Boston music (specifically, that of an urban variety), the name Haasan Barclay would be a very familiar name. BHM: Faces From The New Civil Rights Movement - Ciara Taylor of Dream Defenders

Ciara Taylor is one of the founders and political director of the Dream Defenders - an activist heavily involved in student movements. Dream Defenders is a human rights organisation which was started in April 2012 by a group of African-American Florida college students and alumni following the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin. They not only fight against systemic racism and the oppression of Black and brown people, but as Taylor has stated, the group are also…

FEATURE: 'Dream Defenders' Sounds The Alarm

Members of Dream Defenders made their presence known at the Florida State of the State Address last week. After leading a month-long demonstration a year ago outside the governor’s office, they returned on opening day of the legislative session to protest.

Youth gathered between the House and Senate chambers, about 100 strong. They demanded for an end to zero-tolerance policies in Florida schools and a change to Florida’s gun laws.…

True Religion

What's new? How do I feel? How I feel? This means more to me than I have ever let you know or will ever say because words can never describe. There is no beat that's raw enough, No flow that’s Pure enough, no mic that's clear enough to effectively express what I’m doing. "It’s not about drums, drugs, and hospital drips, oh no. There's more there than that, my friend. We all like a bit of the good life - some the money, some the drugs, others the sex game, the glamour, or the fame" But this…

Daring To Dream: A Review of An Oversimplification of Her Beauty

Daring To Dream: A Review of An Oversimplification of Her Beauty

There is a part of me that is very cautious in reviewing a film like Terence Nance's An Oversimplification of Her Beauty. Most reviews, or even descriptions rely on some form of categorization in order to provide a potential audience with an easily identified region to exist within, allowing them to know before they purchase a ticket or spend their time, if they will be comfortable in that setting. But, I am limited in… Continue

Black Witch: "I Am Such An Enigma"

Lord, I saw this on my twitter feed a few weeks back, someone had a dream about Janelle Monae and they thought it was yet another one of their “layered, complex, and seemingly random” dreams (I seriously quoted that, copy and paste, no edit). Monae was a Marvel comic-styled superhero. Not something mega far-fetched, mate. Y’see, I don’t mean to single this one person out but he resembles a people that I all too commonly come across as a dream interpreter, the… Continue

Black Witch: "Dreamin' of Something"

Dreams are very weird things. Anything can happen in them and they're not always easy to interpret, because the human mind is really complex. As a dream interpreter, I find dreams amazing because the mental landscape is vast and expresses way more than the physical landscape ever could. Dreams may be complicated but with a grasp of how they (and the brain and the mind) work, they're pretty interesting and helpful.

I have a set list of protocol that I've developed when… Continue

Sye and Sandflower on NY High School Music Tour

There's no surprise that singer and songwriter, Sye Spence, has decided to put on a high school music tour, considering she's been composing music since she was in elementary school.  It's important for her, she said, to get a younger generation involved with creative projects, music particularly, and is putting on the A Merican Dream in several New York high schools.  Who was Sye in high school?  She said she… Continue
