Ever wondered what the Heavy metal scene looks like in Mozambique? Check out the 'Terra Pesada' documentary.
From the project's website: “Terra Pesada” is the story of young heavy metal musicians in Mozambique, a former Portuguese slave colony, and their quest to make their voices heard. We follow them at home, at school, hanging out with their friends, talking about music, politics, HIV/AIDS, the wars, what their…

I was recently asked to participate in a cool radio show discussion about punk rock music, lyrics and songwriting. Crescent Hill Radio has a weekly show called From The Inkwell which is about all things related to writing. The host wanted to talk about how punk gets a bad rap as far as an art form, and is ignored as a legitimate form of writing. When I heard this I thought, “Hey, good idea!” I was honored that the folks at Crescent Hill Radio wanted to get me involved and have me… Continue

This past week I facilitated and participated in the first of several free Musician’s Roundtables at the University of Louisville. There were fewer than 13 knights… I mean, musicians, in attendance, but some of them were my friends & internet acquaintances. Among others, attendees included, Lady “Jessy B”, a rapper of a unique cloth, Sir Maxwell Mitchell of ye olden and Sir Justin Lewis, the first of his name and master of going to Bonaroo for free. Oh, and I, Lady Pam Newman,… Continue

This week I was invited to be featured in a local newspaper based off of my blog! Velocity does a feature called, “What I’m Into,” which is a pop culture piece. Erin Keane, a Velocity staff writer who follows my PamNewman.Tumblr.com blog contacted me and requested an interview & photo shoot. Being a nerd is totally paying off, y’all. In order to prepare, I did what most fly women would do: I got my hair did.Added by Sound Check on June 8, 2011 at 12:12pm — 12 Comments
Hell yeah, you guys! I got some concrete things done for my Rockstar career this month! After writhing around on the floor moaning, “Woe is me, the tortured artist!” last month, I was able to stock up the energy to really get to work! I joined a couple of professional music industry organizations and made some of my newest songs mine, legally. I played a gig where I inspired a new musician and played a couple of my new songs out for the first time! I even made a little rough… Continue

I’ve been working hard on solidifying the songs for my first solo album, “The Awesomest of Them All.” I’ve been drawing concept art, re-writing songs, starting new songs. I have been thinking about props, stage setups and costumes. I’ve even been thinking ahead to the creative concept for my next album. I am stressed the fuck out, y’all.Added by Sound Check on April 22, 2011 at 12:22pm — 5 Comments
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for me! I am finishing up the songs for my solo album, “The Awesomest of Them All,” and I was asked to participate in a live & rockin’ performance for an event called Motherlodge! The selection of songs we performed were from Sly and the Family Stone’s Stand! and Dio’s Holy Diver. Extremely awesome! I was asked to be involved by a guy named Ray Rizzo. Ray is a totally awesome dude. He’s also a drummer extraordinaire and spectacular human being… Continue

You may know William DuVall as the lead vocalist for the resurrected Alice In Chains, but what you may not know is that William DuVall cut his musical teeth in the 80’s punk rock/hardcore scene in Atlanta. DuVall played guitar in the underground band Neon Christ during the 80’s and the band was a mainstay in the punk rock/hardcore scene in Atlanta. DuVall has gotten together with director Edgar Johnson to not only do a documentary on his old band but to also shine the light on… Continue
