#SoundCheck: Prince's latest disciple Andy Allo comes into her own on 'Superconductor'

Prince has a long tradition of taking young women under his purple wing and pushing them into the spotlight. There have been some good (yay Sheila E!) and some bad (ugh Carmen Electra...), but there haven't been many as genuine and worthy of respect in their own right as the Cameroonian singer Andy Allo. Although her latest record Superconductor was produced by Prince and features performances from members of the New Power Generation, Andy Allo is clearly the real person in…

Prince at the Forum

Great things:

Prince and his gigantic catalog of hits. I'm sure your aware of it. How many artists and even sub genres have come and gone since he came on the scene?

Prince's sense of showmanship. The stage was shaped like that symbol, there were dancers, hella costume changes, lights, video screens, etc. The guy's a pretty good dancer too.

Happy people act happy. Everyone in the massive crowd was in a good mood and very polite. It is such a contrast…

Afro-punk Celebrates Black History in Our Own Way

Black History month is a special time for our generation to celebrate the differences within our community and reflect on the brave visionaries who continue to inspire us. For the Afro-punk staff, being a punk does not rest on your wardrobe, your music knowledge, or attempting to be different just for the sake of it. Being punk is rebelling against the fear of failure and overcoming people's perception of what you can or can not accomplish. During the month of…
