Confessions of a BLACK Dominatrix: Feelings & Bottom Line Hurt?

Part of working in the BDSM community professionally is being able to market yourself. Of course, many of our clientele are used to seeing thin, white girls with huge breasts in painted-on latex. But for the black and brown kinksters, being black and brown poses its own individual problems as far as marketing and promotion are concerned. There’s a part of me that will always be the weird girl in the big room. I was weird throughout junior high as well as high school. I was also…

Confessions of a Black Dominatrix - Part 2: Race Play?

What's your fantasy? I recall seeing Spike Lee’s 1996 film Girl 6 when I was much younger than I am now. I’ve always been a fan of Spike Lee’s flicks, but Girl 6 to me remains one of his more unsung pieces, and still no DVD release? Shame on you, Spike. For those who are not familiar with Girl 6 it starred the drop dead gorgeous Theresa Randall as an actress down on her luck and in dire straits. Unable to find a steady paying acting gig, she responds…

Confessions of a Black Dominatrix

“I may be bad but I’m perfectly good at it.” When Rihanna sang in “S&M” about how whips and chains excite her, a shockwave went through the pop world. People excited by getting hurt? Oh no, no, that couldn’t be right. And on top of that a Black woman parading around in latex, rope bondage, oh that’s a definite “no.” Proper Black women do not express their sexuality as deviants, that type of sexual abandon is left for white women and not us.

But I have never…

LISTEN: Nikki Jean Collaborates With Bob Dylan & Burt Bacharach

Yes, you read that right. Singer/songwriter/cookie baker(!) Nikki Jean is finally releasing her debut album 'Pennies In A Jar' on July 12th. It features collaborations with Bob Dylan, Burt Bacharach, Carly Simon, Sam Hollander, Lamont Dozier, among others. You've heard her voice on Lupe Fiasco's "Hip Hop Saved My Life", or maybe you've seen her touring with Kanye West.

So, you're wondering: "How did she pull off that Bob…

Che' Guevara a Racist? A Glimpse Into His Diary

He's one of the poster children of revolutionaries.  He's on t-shirts, posters, coasters, the works.  But I have to ask myself, why would any self respecting black person, African American, person of color, self proclaimed nigger, revolutionist or whatever deem themselves, honor or respect Che’ Guevara, after reading the following passage from his diary?

Che' Guevara a Racist?  A Glimpse Into His…

My Roommate Was a Jewish Multi-racial Nazi Skin

After getting robbed on my block by a pack of 13 year olds I decided to say “So long” to my leaky Bed-Stuy terror basement and move into a grown-up apartment in swinging Greenpoint. The guy I moved in with makes his living playing gypsy jazz guitar at upscale nightspots and so far my precious comic book collection hasn’t been destroyed in a flood, so it’s a pretty great situation for me.

My Roommate was a Jewish…

I'm a Black Pagan, Would You Date Me?

Being Black and Pagan is already difficult, but to be Black, Pagan and wanting to date? That’s a multiplex issue in itself. The problems for Black Pagans that want to date stem from mostly religious and fairly racial grounds. Many people are still fairly ignorant about Paganism, witchcraft and Wicca and will…

Ask a white girl, C'mon, do it

"Hey White Girl,

How do you feel about all of the controversy stirring around your blog on Afro-punk? Does it make you think black people are racist?" -HelloKitty26

I'll put it like this. The same conservative nukes who are attempting to slash my ego tires are the same screaming fans at a Nine Inch Nails concert and have 1,000 White friends on Facebook. Quite simply, Afro-punk asked me to do a column based on my views as a White girl...
is it okay to caps White… Continue
