White Supremacists Boycott “Thor” Over Idris Elba Role

The Council Of Conservative Citizens, a White Supremacist organization is calling for a boycott of the movie, “Thor” which is based on a comic book that is based on Norse mythology because of Idris Elba’s role as the Norse God, Heimdall. Elba, who is British, has been in several movie and televisions show, but it perhaps best known for his role as Stringer Bell on the TV Show, “The Wire.”

The group is upset that London-born Idris Elba, star of The Wire and BBC detective series Luther as well as a number of Hollywood films, is to play deity Heimdall in the Marvel Studios feature. The group, which opposes inter-racial marriage and gay rights, has set up a website, boycott-thor.com to set out its opposition to what it sees as an example of leftwing social engineering.

"It [is] well known that Marvel is a company that advocates for leftwing ideologies and causes," the site reads. "Marvel frontman Stan 'Lee' Lieber boasts of being a major financier of leftwing political candidates. Marvel has viciously attacked the Tea Party movement, conservatives and European heritage.

"Now they have taken it one further, casting a black man as a Norse deity in their new movie Thor. Marvel has now inserted social engineering into European mythology."

As laughnahga mentioned, you can stretch history so that Radames is plausibly white, but Aida is usually an Ethiopian or Nubian princess.

Forgive me if I'm being too literal but I tend to think mythological characters as' well' mythological. As in "not real". As in "whats the big deal if Heimdall is colored??" As in "I'm tired of white universe and would enjoy seeing black people in interesting roles" So, ah, were you this callous and annoyed when they made Aang white?? Maybe I wanna take a break from being SuperAfroFighter for the "issues" and see a black man in a comic book I grew up reading. I think I will.

Who knew that a Black man starring in the Thor film would make these guys that uptight. I guess they better not find out that i, a Black man, listen to Black Metal bands from Norway such as Mayhem and Red Harvest. No one said ANYTHING when they had non Black actors playing Egyptians in old Hollywood films. I'd tell those fuckers to get a grip...its about to be 2011. He must find his fellow god buddies and he discovers this man named Ezra guarding a bridge. He realizes that Ezra is Heimdall reincarnated. It is entirely appropriate for Idris Elba to portray this character. I can't wait to see this movie!

White people don't owe us anything nor do have to be in everything they do and make. Just like it wouldn't make sense for a white person to play a African or Kemetic God why would it make sense for a African American to play a Norse god. Its just stupid. There are bigger issues we need to focus on as a people like AIDS and lifting Black education. This is a waste of time to worry about.

I have to admit that has me scratching my head. I bet there’s some plot line involving disguises, possession or reincarnation. Oh well, like NewSoul (I'm taking his word on this since I don't read traditional super hero stuff) stated, it's not like they haven't already taken liberties.

Considering that Cleopatra was of Greek decent (by that time Egypt was ruled by a Greek royal family) it does make some sense to have her played by a white actress. Now if Nefertiti or Hatshepsut were played by a white actress that would "WTF?".
