Redwayne, good looks on No Age. I've just recently started to listening and I'm pretty impressed!
Fashionfreak, haaha I know it took a while for me to embrace my wiz fandom, but I'm now as much a Taylor as i am an afropunk. IM NOT ASHAMED lol. don't get me wrong, a lot of it *is* lyrical-candy and can be a bit "money-cars-and-weed" but what can i say, im a sucker for a clever punchline and obscure sample.
David, great list! and GREAT call on STP and the Deftones! I totally agree! I ended up cutting Arcade Fire and Ceelo (it was tough!!) becasue I haven't listened to them as much as the albums that did make my list. so Im glad to see them make it on yours! Any thoughts on The Roots album How I Got Over? Haven't really dug into that one, either....:/
JJ-M I'm totally with you on Wale! The album is great, but no one will ever give him a chance if he keeps showing up in Flocka videos. even his verse on THAT song was better than a lot of the other trap rap out there, and that verse was terrible! I think he's trying to pull a switch-a-roo on the mainstream. sneak in with flocka, and then blow everyone's mind with his true talent. cause the boy is nice!
Comment by JJ-M on January 3, 2011 at 10:26pm That wiz mixtape is pretty good. Its not going to give you something to spark an intellectual conversation but the production was decent and the guy just has a real chill flow. Same subject matter as kid cudi but less of an emotional delivery.
Now for the wale album. That album was incredible! But it was also incredibly underrated and most people haven't listened to it. It suffered from garbage singles i.e. pretty girls and chillin. Even this guy put up a track that doesn't reflect Wale's lyrical ability. I suggest "shades" featuring chrisette michel, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhL_aJ3pf8g, "Diary"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfmiKmUlx6Q, "Beautiful Bliss" http://www.youtube.com/watchv=J80AXMbLCZA, "TV in the radio" ft. Knaan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMgVPxbCYvw "90210" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrHkV0PEcqM "contemplate", rhianna sample http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTbwTJk1jzM
Now I don't know if you're a hip-hop fan, but if you are, I'm sure you can appreciate the man's talent. He's sick, and the truth is in the tracks. Those two singles should have been throwaway/space filler tracks. He should have released Beautiful Bliss as a single or one of the other ones I posted, and his album and hip hop credibility probably would be better.
Just as a bonus track listen to "eye of the tiger".
