... the other Black experience

New Music: The Mars Volta is over, here's Omar Rodriguez-Lopez new band Bosnian Rainbows

Yes, the rumors are true, the Mars Volta broke up (they're not just on hiatus as previously announced, according to the band's singer Cedric Bixler). BUT Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has a new band. Here's Bosnian Rainbows first single 'Torn Maps' (stream/download below). The band also includes Deantoni Parks (remember Afropunk Festival alums Kudu?!) on drums, Nicci Kasper on keys and Teri Gender-Bender on vocals.
Rodriguez-Lopez says their debut LP is already finished and will be released this year. - L.

For some reason, the breakup doesn't surprise me that much. Still very saddening, but...Omar will do what Omar does. Anyway, the track sounds like a dream. Almost like a modern revisit of 80's New Wave. Considering Omar's back catalog, I am actually pretty surprised that this was what came out of it nonetheless, I already can't wait to hear their album soon.
