Next month will be the 12th annual Black Comics Convention on May 18th in Philadelphia, PA, time to get stoked! This one day comic book convention will focus solely on Black superheroes such as Miles Morales (Spiderman), Black Panther, Mercury Miranda, Static Shock and Storm!

Held by the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention Incorporated (ECBACC), this fantastic convention shines a light on superheroes that are ignored, minimized or sidelined in mainstream comic books. A panel I am looking forward to is M20, which celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Milestone Media comics, who is responsible for making superheros such as Icon & Rocket, Static Shock and Blood Syndicate and making comic more consumable for a diverse public.

There is also a reception and kick off for the convention on Friday, May 17 at the African American Museum in Philadelphia where they will present the Glyph Comics Awards, which celebrates comics made by, for or about the African diaspora. Free admission for the Reception only.

If you like to cosplay, there is a cosplay contest during the convention called AfriCoz! If you want to hock your wares and comic books, registration is still open (last page)!

Aspiring writer? SYNERGY is for you. It allows for writers to share excerpts from their latest short story, novel or script. Or maybe you would like to sit in and listen to the imaginative works of Black creativity. It’s fantastic for those that want to promote their work, get feedback and do networking! But work fast, there’s limited spaces left!

Price of admission of ECBACC is $10, free for youth 12 and under.
