AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

Since 2006 Thai artist Kittiwat Unarrom (whose family also runs a bakery) has used dough as his medium to sculpt gruesome renditions of hand, feet, heads, torsos and other body parts. The results are unnervingly realistic with eyes, lips and other details constructed out of cashews, raisins and the like. A lack of hair and blood-like glazes make the work all the more creepy. Sold at his family's bakery in Ratchaburi, Thailand, he displays the parts wrapped like food in plastic and hung from meat hooks. Apparently, the art is in fact edible and tastes like regular bread.

Watch the video below to see Unarrom at work and some visitors' reactions.

I posted this because it reminded me that I really don't have any excuse for not doing anything creative lately (of my own). My short film is an ongoing thing so what I mean is just day to day creative stuff. Glad you liked the post :)

Interesting! Kind of like the trippy bloody performance art that German artist Hermann Nitsch was known for (saw quite a lot of it in a couple films about 10 years ago). Kinda gruesome......but then rather amusing for some reason you don't quite understand.

This also reminds me of when the gummy bears and candies were first getting popular in the 80's. My mom likes licorice, so when I saw a gummy rat (about 7-8 inches long, sold in wrapped in a gold box) at the candy store, I had to give it to her. Unfortunately, as cute as I though it was, she could not get past the fact that it looked like a rat and she wouldn't eat it. ;)

Daniela, somebody's gotta do crazy shit for us to talk about......all the more amusing if it's creative. I suppose the artist got a little bored with the years of making those green custard rolls at the family bakery all those years. ;)

Wow. Impressive realism, and edible too? Those creations would make for some killer pranks.
