... the other Black experience

let's clarify some stuff about who I am

I am tired of the misconceptions spinning around in the air about African Americans. We are not all the same. Not all of us eat chicken or soul food or play basketball or listen to hip hop or dress thug. Not all of us are Christian or Muslim. Not all of us can fit into a small box or be generalized into a one-size-fits-all stereotype. And people just fall in line and believe that all African Americans are all the same are just fucked up and should learn a thing or two about diversity.

Another thing is that I am tired of people, African Americans included, believing that you have to live a stereotype to really be "black" or whatever. In the United States of America, I shouldn't have to act as a spokesperson for my race or have to explain why I shouldn't fall in line and act all hip-hop and talk in ebonics. It makes me sick. I am a progressive that believes in following my dreams and my own rules on how to live my life. I shouldn't have to act a certain way in order to avoid scrutiny and stereotyping. I should be allowed to be myself and not have to listen to NAS in order to prove what I already and proudly am- which is a black man. Why can't people wake the fuck up these days? It's fucking 2008 and I should be me? Do I have to continue saying the same things as I have been saying since high school? Anyone that has a problem with me saying this stuff and think of me as an oreo can go fuck off.

LOL. ha-ha. yeah, they are. Well, it's hard to be in that situation. What someone else does reflect on you, and what you do determines how whites around you will treat other brothers and sisters that you probably will never meet. That's just hard.

"In the United States of America, I shouldn't have to act as a spokesperson for my race" I have issue with that comment. We all should be spokespeople for our "ethnicity" Not as Sterotypes but as independents. As independent we are unique but as a whole we are all Black-afro-negro-people. You dont have to be a hip-hoper to be black which is a sad though to to be viewed as such my people around us.

P.s. arent the vanilla oreo's gross. LOL.

I totally agree! I'm going through the same thing myself. African-Americans come in every hue and color and our lives are just as diverse. All I can say is live your truth!
