I've been reading a lot about raw food recently, and wanted to see whether I could do it. Here were some of my fears:
Initially I was concerned that I would be consigned to a life of dull, boring watery looking salads, or that I would have to act in a certain way to fit in with the raw food community. I was also aware of not wanting to make myself 'too different' in case I became alienated from my friends and ended up alone. I saw so many websites of people preaching and seeming a bit too holier than thou and thought goodness, I'd never want to end up like one of those guys! I also wondered whether I'd stick with it unless it made me look fabulous and sexy immediately. Impatient I know!
I then came up with a way where I could try it out that was both sociable and fun. One good way to start could be to dedicate this to a cause bigger than myself, and then rally the support of others. I have therefore decided to decicate this to my friend Mohammed, who died of Leukaemia two years ago.
I then started spreading the page around and telling people; what was really interesting was the reactions of others. People wanted (and still want) to know more; party people I always used to get drunk with have started asking me stuff; so I've been telling people what I know so far and hey presto; three people have decided to start eating raw foods with me as well! I've noticed that some people get a bit threatened and say "why are you doing that?", which is what happened when I was drinking orange juice in a pub on the first day of my challenge, but when people realised I wasn't about to turn into a preaching health nut and start looking down on other people's choices they were cool.
This is day 3 of my 100% raw challenge. In the long term I think I'd like to eat about 80% raw in summer and 70% in winter, but that's tomorrow. For now, I'm focussing on the present.
If you'd like to sponsor me, I'd really welcome your support. Here's my fundraising page:
