Afro-punk & the Virgin Mobile FreeFest Join Forces To Fight Youth Homelessness

How would you like to help a great cause and win tickets to one of the most exciting events of the year? Afro-punk is teaming up with Virgin Mobile’s RE*Generation initiative to fight youth homelessness. The RE*Generation brings together organizations that care about homeless youth and connects them with young people like you who want to help. The FREE.I.P. program is a volunteer platform that gives you the chance to earn tickets to sold out, coveted music events like Virgin Mobile FreeFest. In exchange for a few hours of your time, we’re offering volunteers the opportunity to attend the Virgin Mobile FreeFest Saturday Sept 25th in Columbia, MD (FREE round trip transportation and hotel accommodations will be provided).

Featuring M.I.A., Thievery Corporation, LCD Soundsystem, Pavement, Ludacris, Chromeo, T.I. and many more. You don't want to miss this great event! Tickets for FreeFest were “freed out” within 30 minutes of becoming available, but a number of tickets were held for those willing to participate in the volunteer program.

TO GET STARTED: Registrations are currently open for volunteer projects in New York, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore and Washington D.C. Click HERE to register, and sign up for a volunteer service opportunity. You can check out the details for several of the projects online before signing up. Activities typically range from painting and cleaning homeless youth safe havens to collecting and organizing various outreach supplies (i.e. hygiene items, clean socks and underwear as well as food).
For those of you in NEW YORK and CHICAGO, we will be throwing events (shows) where you'll be able to sign up for volunteer opportunities and win 2 tickets to the Virgin Mobile FreeFest! Inclusive of FREE transportation and free hotel accommodations.
The NEW YORK show is taking place FRIDAY AUGUST 13, and it's a FREE show presented with Bronx Underground! We'll also be collecting hygiene items for homeless youth. You could win great prizes! We're counting on you guys! Over two million youth (between the ages of 12 and 24) will experience at least one episode of homelessness each year and over 100,000 youth sleep on the street for 6 months or more in America. Youth homelessness is the result of other societal problems like poverty, drug abuse and addiction, homophobia, mental illness and domestic violence. We encourage you to lend a little of your time and support to show these young people you care. And in the end, there’ll be something pretty sweet in store for you as well...

You should know...

For volunteers in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area:

· All volunteers must be 16 or older to participate. Volunteers who are under 18 years old must submit a signed Parent Consent Form before participating in a volunteer activity. (Parental Consent forms are available post-registration from the My Profile page).

· The first volunteers for each participating market who complete their applicable level of required service will receive the reward offered for that service opportunity, while supplies last. If you want to bring a friend, make sure they sign up to volunteer as well.

Ticket reward recipients will receive one (1) ticket to Virgin Mobile FreeFest Sat Sept 25th at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
Several of our volunteer projects involved the creation of outreach kits with critical hygiene supplies. This is an activity that can be done off-site and dropped off at during the event drop off hours. These events typically support a very large number of volunteers.
We have limited space available for on-site volunteer service opportunities. If the maximum number of participants allowed for any volunteer service opportunity have signed up, it will be marked as "closed." You will have the option to sign up as an alternate in case another volunteer drops out of the project.
You must live within one hundred (100) miles of one of the participating markets to be eligible.
You may only volunteer in ONE (1) market.

For volunteers in Chicago, New York and Boston taking FreeFest Express:

§ All volunteers must be 18 years or older to participate.

§ Ticket reward recipients from Chicago, New York and Boston will receive two (2) tickets to Virgin Mobile FreeFest Sat Sept 25^th at Merriweather Post Pavilion along with free bus transportation and hotel accommodations.

§ We have limited space available for on-site volunteer service opportunities. If the maximum number of participants allowed for any volunteer service opportunity have signed up, it will be marked as "closed." You
will have the option to sign up as an alternate in case another volunteer drops out of the project.

§ You must live within one hundred (100) miles of one of the participating markets to be eligible.

§ You may only volunteer in ONE (1) market.
