(flyer for Monday's event)
As part of our initiative to platform youth homelessness awareness, rock and blues singer, Toshi, seemed like the perfect headliner for this event. Toshi is the daughter of Freedom Singers co-founder, Dr. Bernice Reagon, founder of Sweet Honey in the Rock and is an advocate for music affecting social change. As an openly gay musician, she is very involved in the LGBT community. She currently volunteers with a non-profit organization called, Fierce, that supports and empowers gay and lesbian teens of color in New York. She said she fully supports enhancing awareness around youth homelessness because she believes the youth inspires change in this country.

While Toshi was performing, the crowd filled into the venue. People registered to volunteer for the September 11th volunteer program in Brooklyn, while others bowled and enjoyed Toshi's performance.

Right before ending her set, Toshi surprised the audience with a duet with host, Tamar-Kali. Tamar, who was featured in the 2002 Afro-punk documentary, recently released her new album and is making a comeback on the Afro-punk scene.

Thanks to everyone who came out and registered to volunteer with Afro-punk's fight against youth homelessness. Stay tuned for our upcoming projects, photos, and recaps of the rest of our program.
