Breathing new life into the all-too-homogenous world of post-hardcore, UK quintet Shades’ new EP ‘Lose Your Chains’ is surprisingly deep and nuanced for a genre often as nuanced as a crowbar. New single ‘Wilde Out for Wanderlust’ builds from a canon to a whisper, with front man Ziggy Paul’s dynamic vocals conveying something of emo heroes Braid. The track makes a great use of the tension between open space and explosive energy. The soft breakdown / zen koan “nothing is everything / and everything is nothing” builds to an epic climax that showcases the best of what this band has going. Lose Your Chains will be available commercially on Saturday March 21st on bandcamp and iTunes.
