afropunk premiere: ‘glass’ – the energetic new track from alt-pop musician deqn sue

Today we’re premiering the new track from idiosyncratic pop musician DeQn Sue – ‘Glass’ (the second single from her upcoming EP, ‘Snack’). In regards to the energetic song, co-written by herself and Kelvin Wooten, the Alabama/California-based musician tells us: “I remember sitting in my car. It was a weird day for me. I was daydreaming/gazing out the window and my thoughts went to dissecting the glass I was looking out of and how I felt like glass both in its strength and in its transparency. I grew up with the whole “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” ideal which is crap to me. I think we do our best to stoically withstand negativity, unkind words and pain by hiding it and forcing into a dark place, like it doesn’t exist, but it does. humans, like glass can only take so much pressure, so many stone throws, so many injustices until we crack. ‘Glass’ the song is a provision, a reminder of sorts for me and I hope for others… that you will fight everyday for what you love, people you love, your ideals and you will endure daily struggles with/for friends, family, health and the list goes on, and while you have to be strong, “durable” to stand the test of time, it’s okay to be fragile. It’s okay to feel hurt. it’s okay to need help.” Listen below!
