afropunk premiere: la based alt rap duo neza x alxndr say “rise above it” with latest track, ‘freeze’

November 10, 2015

Today we’re premiering the new single from LA based alt rap duo NEZA x ALXNDR’s latest offering – ‘FREEZE’. Their camp tell us that NEZA (vocals) was “born in Rwanda and transplanted to the Midwest” and that producer ALXNDR was “born in Pennsylvania but grew up traveling around Europe/Asia”. Regarding the schlomo track, NEZA tells us: “My vision was to convey the idea of getting into a scene or lifestyle that can be a determent and not uplifting. Hit on areas like club life and the street life. Sometimes people in these worlds can doubt you and keep you down. They don’t believe in you, because most times they don’t believe in themselves. The street life can be very toxic…. from rivals, corrupt cops, etc… I hit on the police brutality a bit too. Someone that is at a place and gunned down for no reason. Some people just don’t want you to win. They don’t believe in you. The point of the song is to be above it. RISE ABOVE IT!!!” He adds, “Things that inspire my music are the people around me. Things I encounter on my day to day can serve as my inspiration. Seeing the presence of police brutality heightened by social media, people losing their life in the streets, the influx of violence, and just living in Los Angeles where people can have cruel intentions served as my inspiration. My message is for people to be above it. Take control!!!” Listen to ‘FREEZE’ below.
