afropunk premiere: ‘what time is it?’ – the new track from staunch feminist and afrofuturist performer lady vendredi

Today we’re premiering the new single from Afrofuturist performer Lady Vendredi, aka Nwando Ebizie – ‘What Time Is It?’. A track that has been launched ahead of the musician and dancer’s dance-theatre-ritual event at London’s Roundhouse – a performance art gig that is inspired by traditional Haitian voodou grooves, experimental music, global bass, jazz and hip hop. In regards to the track, the camp of Lady Vendredi (a musician who describes herself as a staunch feminist) state: “‘What time is it?’ was written whilst Lady Vendredi was DJing at a classical music festival in Rio. The lyrics were written whilst sitting above tropical orange blossomed flowers, after reading Discordian tombe The Illuminatus Trilogy. The track has elements of the absurdity of Discordianism crossed with sci fi themes in the lyrics featuring a mix of vodou rhythms and samba rhythms plus space jazz horns.” Check it out below, and CLICK HERE to support the manufacture and self-release of Lady Vendredi’s debut EP (via Kickstarter).
