Afro-punk takes over Brooklyn Bowl to party and registers volunteers

Aug.26.2010: After our successful youth homelessness awareness event last week with The Bronx Underground, we were excited for our second big event at one of the dopest music venues in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bowl. Hosted by hip hop pioneer Fab Five Freddy with a DJ set by legendary Biz Markie, more than one hundred people came out to register and support our youth homeless awareness campaign. Our favorite pro BMX bike rider, Nigel Sylvester, also came out to support our efforts and to register to volunteer. Check out the rest of the photos of that night here.

As our featured music guest for the night, it was a treat to have DJ Biz Markie and Fab Five Freddy bring out their fans and show their support to our project. DJ Biz Markie who's been known to spin for important social awareness events including energy efficiency, played his signature hits throughout the night, including a crowd favorite, "Just a Friend." Not only did people register to volunteer for the two NY initiatives against homeless teens, but people also enjoyed the music, bowled with their friends, and had a good time.

Our favorite pro BMX bike rider, Nigel Sylvester, made a cameo in support of our project. When we asked Nigel why supporting youth homelessness awareness was important, he said, "The help has to start somewhere and New York is a great place for it." "I came out tonight because it is a great cause," he said.
