albright college suspends white student who posted ridiculously racist blackface video to snapchat

October 3, 2016

Two students at Albright College have been suspended for posting a video in blackface on the social media site Snapchat. The video includes a female student, with brown paint on her face, calling herself ‘Carlisha’ and twerking with a padded behind. She even mentions that “Black Lives Matter now” in order to cement her newfound Black womanhood. Albright’s president Lex O. McMillan III has disavowed the video taking to the school’s Facebook page saying, “We unequivocally condemn the behavior in the video. It is unacceptable by any member of our community and in no way represents the values of Albright. The College celebrates and takes great pride in its diversity.” Current students and alum are calling for her to be expelled, but outside of this statement, the university hasn’t taken more action. I want to say that I’m not surprised, but it’s unbelievable that white people still don’t understand that Blackface is racist. And that if you do racist things, there are consequences. So don’t do racist things and don’t be racist. It’s pretty simple.
