In just two days, the greatly anticipated documentary American Promise will be winging its way to a theater near you. The documentary was shot by filmmakers Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson. It follows the educational journey of their son Idris Brewster and his best friend Seun, filmed over 13 years, from Kindergarten right through High School Graduation. Idris and Seun are accepted into Manhattan’s prestigious Dalton School, but being two of only black students in the entire school does not come without its downfalls.

We follow the highs and of this incredible story as captured through camera lens. We witness through their story, challenges of being raised young, black, middle class males navigating through the educational system. The impact on the families of the appointment of the first black President of the United States. We also see the battle Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson encountered as parents who want the best possible outcomes for their son and Seun, but in hindsight can see the many errors made along the way. The young men travel down noticeably different paths, but how does it all end?

American Promise is a must see for all. Out October 18, make sure you support this riveting documentary.
