AP Quickie: Kele Fired From Bloc Party?

WTF is going on? :-P Kele Okereke told NME.com that his bandmates from Bloc Party went into the recording studio without inviting him or letting him know about it. "I hope I haven't been fired. I don't really know what's going on, because we haven't really spoken recently and I'm a bit too scared to ask", he reportedly said. Whether he's fired or not, it must be strange to be in a band that doesn't let you clearly know if you're still a member, dontcha think?

Sounds like playa hate by the group on Kele's more-successful-than-expected solo career.  I know he still wants to stay in the band but I sense he won't be crying long at all if he must move on.  He probably explored the solo project in lieu of the group tensions.  Hopefully it will be wworked out.

I like Kele and I think the other guys in the band are great musicians as well. But If he's out of the band then I'd have to say I'd pretty much have no interest in what the other guys are doing at all. Kele is the heart of the band. His voice and the way that he approaches songwriting is what sepeartes Bloc Party from all the the other skiny british dudes playing anthemic and jittery guitar rock. Without him they'd have no identity. Kele's yelp is a key ingredient to their sound. Even if they get a "better" frontman it'll just make them some other band, not Bloc Party.

If he's in the dark about that then he clearly has a raw deal in the contract arrangement. The whiff of some shit like that should give lawyers erections and wet spots.

Don't know how Bloc Party will fare without him, that being said I hope the new album is closer or superior to the first two and FAR above Intimacy.
