What's up AP fam? It has just been announced that punk band Bad Brains' song "Re-Ignition" has been licensed to be featured on the upcoming video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock (to be released in the fall). Other bands featured will include Ramones, The White Stripes, Them Crooked Vultures, Alice Cooper...the game will also have the now-closed legendary NY hardcore/punk venue CBGB
as a playable stage! Now, we know some people think punk has nothing to do with money, the corporate world, etc. So we're asking you: are Bad Brains selling out, or should we just rejoice at the recognition of this legendary punk band? Should they steer clear of anything corporate, or should they make as much money as possible after all these years? - Lou C-D
its about DAMN TIME!!! Shit yeah they should get as much money as they can from any video-game/movie/tv show/ advertisement that wants to pay them for their legendary status.
Its time to get paid, yall. Being broke does not= bad-ass.
These guys need to be able to provide resources & assets for their families.
In the 21st century, there is NO such thing as "selling out".
A lot of people here work jobs they don't like.
Its called doing what you gotta do to get what you need.
Recognition and selling out are 2 different animals. Yes I get my gray bearded ass in a punk purist tizzy when I walk by Hot Topic but I get happy when some kid sees my Bad Brains badge and asks what is the best record to start with (ROIR Cassette of course.)
They aren't changing their music or style in order for the song to be used. Just a little bit more cash for them to stash away for retirement. Aint no 401k in rock&roll
This recognition is good exposure. No such thing as a sell-out. I see it as a sell-to. You need money to eat and live. We need to change our thinking about business. I use to think that way until I was homeless. Their existence can inspire others. Not all businesses and corporate world are bad people. People think that way must think money is the root of all evil. Money can't be evil;it's a thing.
More power to them. About dayum time.
"Punk" has been sold out for years and only really exists in small communities. Bad Brains are old and have done their time. Let them do what they want, they have already paved the way for the rest of us.
