Since WTT, Lil Wayne and A$AP all decided to make statements out of the American Flag the new trend has become exactly that: The AMERICAN FLAG. Punks who were never one to be blinded by trends are now clamoring to the American flag trend. My question is: Are they who they really say they are? 'Punk' used to be considered Anti-fashion, and argued that punk should be defined by their music or their ideology, yet it seems that with the right amount of tattoos, ripped or tattered clothing just about anyone can be considered 'Punk.' Check out this blind dose of "Punk Patriotism."

Comment by TheProzacIsWorking on July 10, 2012 at 7:10pm Lil Wayne was not the first person to wear the American Flag. So if he wears a leather jacket, should we stop wearing those too?
Comment by Tyrone Williams on July 9, 2012 at 11:25am another thingh is that even though punks seen lil wayne dressed with an american flag don't they know lil waynes a poser anyways why would you want to follow a lil waynes trend
Comment by Compound Egret on July 8, 2012 at 11:02pm As far back as I can remember, there have always been some fashion aspects to punk.
These dudes were punks, still are. They dressed in such a way to broadcast the fact that they were punks to other people who loved or hated them for it.
It's fine by me, but if y'all are playing punk fashion police, don't you get points off for wearing an Iron Maiden shirt?

Comment by TheProzacIsWorking on July 5, 2012 at 3:04pm Maybe what they want is to wear the American flag. And last time I checked it wasn't up to anyone else to decide who's punk and who's not. This elitism is turning punk into the very thing that we're trying to get away from. People were wearing the American flag BEFORE Lil Wayne but because he decided to put something on with it on there, all those people are now following a fad? Even though they wore it before it was a fad? You can't just find pictures of people and assume you know the reasoning behind what they do. And punks have been wearing what other punks wear for decades. Leather jackets? Safety pins? Mohawks? Are all of them not punk either? Being punk is an honor? An honor that is determined by the clothing you choose to wear? What a shitty honor, then. I don't want that bullshit. And whose duty is it to relieve people of that honor? Not yours. Not the writer of the article....matter of fact, how about you try telling a punk, white or black, that they aren't punk in person?
