black woman elected mayor of baton rouge – local elections matter

December 13, 2016

In the wake of an election cycle that’s shaken the country to its core, beacons of hope abound. Baton Rouge, Louisiana has elected a Black woman as its mayor and with Sharon Weston Broome comes years of experience, integrity, and a vision for a unified Baton Rouge. As a champion for children and the impoverished, mayor-elect Broome said, “Tonight Baton Rouge made a statement, a statement that we are a city of inclusion. That we are a place of hope and optimism. A place where little boys and little girls of all walks of life know that they can grow up and lead a city no matter what their color or gender.” Super proud to have more representation on the local level, so huge congrats to the new mayor-elect!
