Can Andre 3000 & Crew Pull Off That Jimi Biopic Without Using Any Hendrix Original Music?

We know many of you guys are real excited about the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000. As we've told you before, Hendrix's estate refused to authorize the use of original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix. So the team had to get creative to work around this. Producers told magazine Rolling Stone that they will use new recordings of songs that Jimi Hendrix covered in his time, but didn't write: tracks by The Beatles, Muddy Waters, Elmore James and more.
Do you think they can pull it off? Are you looking forward to watching this movie? Let us know in the comments. :)

Love Andre's work but it's hard to see the point of the film without Hendrix music. Makes it kind of pointless, unless people want to pick through the bones of his life. Why does the family feel the need to hold back on this aspect? If it's money, wouldn't they have made some with the film? arrgh

It sucks that the Hendrix music won't be there, but I still want to see it. I wonder how involved he was with his family throughout his adult life.

I'm probably gonna wait until the dvd comes out, I'll be too disappointed if I go to the movies without any real Hendrix music.

If we're lucky, we'll get Backbeat, if we're not, Jackie Jormp-Jomp (Jane Krakowski playing Janis Joplin in an unauthorized biopic on "30 Rock")

I don't know what that means without the family. I like 3000 definitely but I am kinda torn at what he would think about a film about himself that was "unauthorized." I really believe that he has the best intentions but I also think that he will have a lot of his fans check it out but a lot of Jimi fans may not etc. Wood Harris set the bar pretty high for me...

I have to admit that I'm not as excited about this as I was when I first learned of the biopic.I probably will check it out at some point but I'm not gonna rush to the theatre to see it.

Ok I found an article from Rolling Stone that says that Hendrix's fam have to be completely involved in the writing and directing of the film which is understandable.

@sonia there is no doubt that he will do great as Hendrix it's just a little annoying that viewers won't be able to experience the music that made him a legend in the movie. A lot of ppl might loose interest in going to go see it bcuz of this. I'm still going to see though.

I'm very excited about this film. I think Andre's gonna knock it out the park and I'm sure their interpretations of Hendrix songs will be creative.
