Candy Magazine- The First Tansgender Fashion Magazine- Has Drag Michelle Obama on Cover

Candy Magazine, The first transgender fashion magazine of it's kind, paid homage to First Lady Michelle Obama in this month's issue. Notably in drag culture, cultural icons and respectable public figures are saluted as a noteworthy subjects to be represented in drag, such as Marilyn Monroe, Whitney Huston, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, and Cher. Their dress represents something to "aspire to" and for cultural figures it is a sign of respect and is complimentary, rather than satire or disrespectful. Candy's cover has caused quite a stir! Members outside of the LGBT community have taken Candy's portrayal of the First Lady as disrespectful to the First Family, which was not the intention but understandable to those not familiar with drag culture. Candy salutes Mrs. Obama, what is your take on "Obama Drag"?

It's a drag magazine. Not a "transgender fashion" magazine (whatever that would be).

If I understand drag, they aren't always going to look exactly like the ones they are imitating. I'm sure their intention had nothing to do with making fun of or disrespecting Michelle Obama. Those who think they are disrespecting her may be taking the idea a little too hard, I believe.

I am just disappoint that she does not look MORE like the first lady. Do over please! Otherwise it is all good.
