When you think “great scripted TV dramas,” BET is ensuring it’s one of the first names that come to mind. Hoping to build upon the success of critically-acclaimed scripted series like Being Mary Jane and The Quad, their newest drama Rebel daringly takes on the complicated relationship between the Black community and the police. Directed by John Singleton, the series follows Rebel (Danielle Moné Truitt), a Black female cop who leaves the force after an intense Internal Affairs/criminal investigation for shooting her partner to try and stop him from gunning down her little brother. Now fighting crime as a P.I., Rebel must also fight off dirty cops seeking revenge as she struggles with her brother’s murder. REBEL premieres on BET, Tonight at 10/9c.

Featuring an all-star cast, including Giancarlo Esposito (Lieutenant Charles Gold, Rebel’s friend and mentor), Mykelti Williamson (Rene Knight, Rebel’s father), Cliff “Method Man” Smith (TJ, Rebel’s ex-husband), LaTanya Richardson (Detective Traylynn Jones, Mack’s New Partner), and Brandon Quinn (Mack, Rebel’s Former Partner), the series examines the conflict officers of color face as police forces across the nation come under fire for brutality and misconduct toward their communities. In a time of #BlackLivesMatter, REBEL is a hard-hitting, gritty, complicated and morally ambiguous series tackling timely issues ripped straight from the headlines. REBEL is Executive Produced and Directed by John Singleton. Music was composed by Jill Scott and Raphael Saadiq.
