dylann roof feels no remorse: “i do not regret what i did”

January 5, 2017

It seems that some of the sick things from the past two years have carried over into the new year. The Charleston church shooting of 2015 left 9 dead at Mother Emanuel AME Church and a nation scarred by the vicious killing motivated solely by white supremacy. The perpetrator Dylann Roof is now on trial and the jury heard excerpts from Roof’s journal, in which he wrote, “I would like to make it crystal clear I do not regret what I did. I am not sorry. I have not shed a tear for the innocent people I killed. I do feel sorry for the innocent white children forced to live in this sick country and I do feel sorry for the innocent white people that are killed daily at the hands of the lower race. I have shed a tear of self-pity for myself. I feel pity that I had to do what I did in the first place. I feel pity that I had to give up my life because of a situation that should never have existed.” The lack of remorse, the cognizance of knowing exactly what he did and showing no contrition, shows that he is the gravest coldest type of killer. And it’s exactly what his act showed, that white supremacy is deadly.
