EA CEO Wants Call of Duty to 'Rot From The Core'

Read this

This is the issue I'm beginning to have with game companies: they are forgetting the FUN.

As you see in the Industry Gamers interview, their management is focused on killing the competition instead of making the killing in their games fun.  So it seems.

Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 both look EXTREMELY fun, from what I've seen and read on the web.  So, the attitude of the top may not yet have affected the work and focus of the developers.  I'm afraid it will come to that.

In the article, Riccitiello, EA's John Riccitiello, says

"I think our game is more authentic. It’s definitely going to do a lot of things better. Lighting’s better, physics is better, animations are better, particle effects are better, vehicles are better. I think there’s a lot of things to like about our product and I think it’s going to be a great battle."

Where does he mention that our game has a great, immersive story and engaging, seat of your pants gameplay?  Maybe he's thinking only of the multiplayer?  Well, where does he say it will be fun, where teamwork counts, the maps have realistic terrain and physics effects that will feel real world and immerse you into the world with other virtual soldiers engaging in battles that require some tactical thinking and less running around solo?  Where teamwork counts for accomplishing objectives?

Both of the executives in this article want to fight with each other for dominance instead of realising that we gamers will buy BOTH of their games and play both.  The only way one defeats the other is if one side drops the ball on GAMEPLAY.

Every game so far that tried to "beat World of Warcraft (WoW)" has fallen on it's ass.  Maybe they'd be better off if they did what Blizzard did when they decided to make WoW:  fix the flaws in the genre, capitalise on the strengths, and build the uniqueness of your game on top of and in that.

It's about the games.

Well, those are my stream of consciousness thoughts on the matter.
