ebony: “how black america can survive, thrive in the trump era”

Breaking from the normal celebrity cover, Ebony Magazine’s Febuarary cover story image is an ‘American Gothic’-inspired illustration of a hopeful black family looking into the future of Trump’s America asking us,: how and if black American can survive and thrive in what’s sure to be a turbulent time? Speculatively? Through intersectional leadership and goals and radical black love. “It’s time to build LGBTQ, feminist coalitions led by people of color—Black, Latinx, First Nations, Asian and working-class—that address entrenched discrimination,” writes Kirsten West Savali. “We dig deep for that flickering, sacred joy and reignite the bold Black flame that is our birthright. We come back home to ourselves. We dance because our ancestors are watching, because our children are watching, because our enemies are watching[…]Then we tear them down.”
