feature: afropunk to publish multiartist web comic ‘when we were kings’

AFROPUNK has announced that it will publish a new multartist web comic, ‘When We Were Kings’ – an eight-part series (consisting of a five-page standalone story) that will premiere every Monday on AFROPUNK.COM starting August 24th 2015. The series, created by Alverne Ball, is a post-apocalyptic story that examines the human nature of survival and its toll on the physical and mental stability of a former astronaut; exploring the perception of human connection, the loss of social laws, and the diminishing of natural resources as it correlates to modern-day life. The series will feature some of the comic industry’s “rising star” Black and Latino artists, such as three-time Glyph award-winning artist Jason Reeves; Serena Guerra, colorist of Image comic’s Mice Templar; Geo Devilla; Ashley A. Woods; Quinn McGowen; Ren McKinzie; and Michael Watson (with coloring by Santosh Kumar Rath, lettering by Jaymes Reed, and editing by Chakira Lane). Its creator states: “I’m enthusiastic to be working with such dedicated artists! The idea behind this story has been a task in futility when it comes to storytelling and making sure readers get a full movement in each story.” Check out some teaser images below.
