feature: after hamilton, daveed diggs falls back with his clipping buddies for ‘wriggle’ ep

June 15, 2016

So, did you have fun trying to get your hands on those Hamilton tickets yet? Back when we discussed Daveed Diggs involvement in plenty of experimental hip-hop projects, we broke out that his latest one was him joining Hamilton. And his musical bravery paid off in a Grammy and sold out shows across the world. All we ask is that while you are doing that, you don’t forget how he took off. What better way to remind you than to share clipping.’s latest Sub Pop/Deathbomb Arc EP Wriggle?

Now, if you remember one thing about clipping (or clppng, if you wish), it’s that the world in which their music exists in is an ugly one. There is hardly a positive speck of light shown throughout the music. Someone either gets fucked, fucked up or fucked over in some way. But at least that means you get a new “Intro” out of it! Opening with the lines “the bulb in the streetlights flickering a little bit/I hope the bitch don’t burn out”, you already know that there is no sun to be had in this album. In at least 20 minutes, drugged out women do Hollywood drugs (“Get Back” with rapper ANTWON and Signor Benedick the Moor), guns are going off nonstop in different places (“Shooter”), S&M practitioners get their own sex jam (the Whitehouse-sampling title track) and they explore unfaithful love (“Our Time”). This is only the EP! By the time clipping. drops their newest, it’ll be like we had never really left. But Wriggle is a hell of a revisit back.
