feature: azealia banks apologizes, says her words reflected her pain, misfortunes

June 10, 2016

In a statement posted this morning on her Facebook page, Azealia Banks vowed not to use the word “fag**t” ever again. Banks has often showed great growth potential but also went out of her way to use racist and homophobic slurs to make some of her points, making many wonder about the reasons for this hurtful and self-defeating behavior.
In today’s statement, Banks writes: “By using those words i paint a picture of myself that isn’t the true me. I paint the picture of my upbringings, my neighborhood, my pain, and my misfortunes… I paint the picture of someone who is used to suppressing things, and being defensive. I paint the picture of someone who cannot allow themselves to be vulnerable or at the very least, Happy…”
Makes us want to root for her. Hang in there, Azealia (and please, please stop with the racist/homophobic slurs, they’re the worst ways possible to make the points you’re trying to make, even if you don’t mean them).
