feature: basquiat, through the eyes of british fine artist jemimah canegrati

September 9, 2015

Take a look at this striking portrait by London based fine artist Jemimah Canegrati (pictured below). The portrait, of iconic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, will be exhibited next month with Canegrati’s latest work; as part of London’s African and Caribbean Diaspora Festival on the Southbank. Cangegrati is part of the art collective BBFA (Black British Female Artist) and her camp state, “Portraiture is her first love […] Executing portraits is the closest to justifying the existences of people , movement in figures is the nearest to science and illustration is journalism in animation. Every piece created is a portrait. A revealing of personal experience. Collectively it’s self portraiture fractured and left all over but it’s reflective of the admirer.” See the full portrait below, plus more of the British artist’s work.
