feature: bbc two to air comprehensive four-part series chronicling lesser known black british histories

BBC Two is, once again, teaming up with acclaimed historian and broadcaster David Olusoga in a follow up to last year’s ‘Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners’. ‘A Black History of Britain’ (produced and written by Olusoga) will air as a four-part series that chronicles the lesser known events and figures of black British histories; an attempt to present those histories as the crucial narratives that they are to collective British and world history.

“This series will unveil a new type of black British history, because to me black history is everyone’s history. It’s the long, often tragic and always surprising story of Britain’s relationship with Africa and her peoples,” Olusoga tells BBC.

In correspondence with the series, more than 20 BBC Black History plaques will be placed throughout Britain, former colonies, and Commonwealths to commemorate the pivotal events and people of the newly uncovered history.
