feature: botswana-based model kesaobaka kay uses androgyny to transform the fashion world

July 14, 2016

‘Celebrating Afrocentric style and High Fashion- I portray Fashion in terms of sexuality, lifestyle and Authenticity.’ Artist, model, and general fashion lover Kesaobaka Kay is revolutionizing the modeling world. Challenging the social norms of his country, he is shifting the tides as a self-identified Androgynous model. As Kay beautifully and creatively walks the line between feminine and masculine, he influences those around him. Being based in Botswana, Africa (a country that offers little to no recognition for the LGBTQ community or gay marriage) amplifies the necessity of his work; not only for self-expression, but to provide a platform for influence and change. Kay’s acceptance within his country is tell enough of a shift, and his most recent photo series has made leaps across the globe; drawing more than just regional attention. The work he produces is not just for observation, but for activism, and as he powerfully (and fiercely) makes a name for himself, he leaves a trail of opportunity behind him. Check out his important work below.
