feature: brazilian illustrator willian santiago draws inspiration from mid-century art

January 19, 2016

Meet Brazilian illustrator Willian Santiago. Santiago’s personal style, as an illustrator, harkens back to mid-century vintage children’s illustrations that also seem to draw inspiration from minimalist graphic design and art deco. In much of his work, Santiago uses geometric shapes and blocks of solid neutral and/or muted colors to demonstrate a shape or silhouette or a mood. In this series of three images, Santiago shares his interpretation of the black women of Southern Brazil.

Check out the series and let us know what you think about it in the comments! And see more of Willian’s illustrations here.
