In times of cultural strife, it is wise and rejuvenating to ground oneself; to return to the earth and reflect. In the illuminated social climate of Brazil, its nesting creatives are heeding the call for release and grounding- creating works of art that not only inspire hope and pride, but recognize the cruciality of nature.

In photographer Florisval Neto latest ongoing series ‘Ohun Adayeba’, this concept is highlighted and beautifully put to action. With the title meaning ‘Natural’ in Yoruba, the entire piece is centered around balancing the beauty of black bodies, with the beauty of their organic surroundings. This project is more than just a photography compilation, but a reminder of the core of beauty; once the serenity of the earth is revealed, the subjects are able to surrender to that reality. If you don’t believe me, look at their faces: joy radiates off each of their faces, and there is an encompassing air of peace and belonging. As Neto stoically contrasts vibrant accessory and rich texture the subjects stand fiercely in their skin- almost as rooted as their environment. A true homage to the gracefulness of authenticity, check out some of Florisval Neto’s Ohun Adayeba’ below.
