February 10, 2016

Check out at the work of illustrator and sequential designer Mildred Louis. Louis, who is based in Boston, studied animation at Sheridan College, and is influenced by things like Sailor Moon and Magic Knight Rayearth. She has a sizable body of work, which includes a comic web-series ‘Agents of the Realm.’ Louis draws her characters chock-full of diversity and defining imperfections and features, which serves to humanizes them and makes their stories that much more relatable. “‘Agents of the Realm’ is a magical girl adventure about young women trying to maintain the delicate balance of attending college with saving the world. Inspired by a number of timeless stories, Agents showcases young women of color becoming the heroes to their own stories and building close, dependable relationships. The story seeks to highlight women of all backgrounds and identities and to serve as a reminder that their stories matter too, Louis tells AFROPUNK

Louis is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds in order publish volume one of ‘Agents of the Realm’ as full-color book. You can learn more about the campaign and donate right here. Scroll down to check out her individual illustrations and a few of her AotR characters, too.
