feature: #deixaocabelodameninanomundo campaign by nobrasil – brazilian designer diane lima uses her platform to promote nappy/natural hair pride

November 11, 2015

Check out the #deixaocabelodameninanomundo campaign, by NoBrasil (a platform that connects people who are transforming the country through creativity; and promotes solidarity, diversity and ethics in creative processes). In the video below via TEDXSãoPaulo, watch NoBrasil’s creative director and designer Diane Lima discusses the aim of the company and it’s hashtag campaign – which she hopes will inspire Afro-Brazilians to embrace who they truly are. She states: “Leave the girl’s hair in the world is a metaphor to say that the time has come to be who we are.” In regards to the campaign, photographer Guilherme Malaquias (his work pictured above, a contribution to the campaign) says that it “seeks to deconstruct the capillary bias that oppresses so many children in the world”. See some of the photos and campaigns that have come out of the campaign underneath the video.
