feature: fictional web series “boxx” follows the lives of trans and queer london-based black artists

March 15, 2016

“BOXX” is a fictional web drama series that follows two black, London-based trans artists while they create a documentary about their lives and experiences. “BOXX” earnestly tells the unheard stories of trans and queer people of color who deal with and discuss issues of diaspora, mental health, familiar estrangement, monogamy, or lack thereof.

The show’s formate is pretty interesting, too. The first two episodes are a quick seven and four minutes each and take the shape of an actual documentary, with a mix of straight-forward interviews, director confessions, and ”candid“-seeming breakthrough scenes. And, while very brief, the conversations we see between friends and ex’s manages to creates immediate attachment to and reliability with these characters. ”BOXX“ was written by Yrsa Daley-Ward and directed & produced by Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor. You can watch episode one down below and be sure to follow the “Boxx” YouTube channel for upcoming episodes.
