feature: ghanaian fashion designer hassan alfaziz iddriss debuts unisex collection

January 18, 2016

Ghanaian fashion designer, Hassan Alfaziz Iddriss is the creative mind behind up-and-coming unisex label Hazza. Hazza is based out of Ghana and presented a collection at Ghana Fashion and Design Week last October. Hazza’s SS16 lookbook, ‘Ashasie3′, showcases Iddriss’ practical, unisex garments amongst a rural housing structure. “Ashasie3, in our local dialect, means the beginning, and the collection pays homage to the struggles of a mother, and the strength and courage to enable her children to succeed,” Iddriss tells ELLE South Africa. The collection itself consists of neutral-colored fabrics, two-piece wrap sets with functional cargo pockets, and graphic tunics—it’s all very Jedi-esque.

The commonplace setting of the editorial serves as a reinforcement for the utilitarian nature of the overall collection, as well as Iddriss’ desire to make clothing that makes ethical sense to the lives of her customers and community. “The vision is for the brand to become the number one label in ethical, contemporary, and urban wear in Africa and beyond. We don’t want our customers to only buy our stuff but to believe in every collection we produce, there is an inspiration and a message backed by it.”
