Take a look at some images from last weekend's first Natural/Nappy Hair Empowerment March last weekend in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil (Marcha do Empoderamento Crespo). The march was held to show the diverse beauty of black women and to deliver a collective response to the continued prejudice against Afro-Brazilian women. The march was organized by Lorena Lacerda, Naira Gomes, Andréa Souza, Milla Carol, Ivy Guedes, Samira Soares, Jack Nascimento, João Vieira, Vanessa Ribeiro, Hilmara Bitencourt , Chermie Ferreira and Nadja Santos. Black Women of Brazil states that on the Facebook event page for the march, one women (Yasmin Porto) wrote: "Wearing cabelo crespo (kinky/curly hair) is a political act. I wore straightened hair for seven years. We are tired of standards, the establishment of rules". Explore below and CLICK HERE to read more about this empowering statement.
