June 23, 2015

It’s been announced that Miles Morales will officially replace Peter Parker to become the next primary Spider-Man, making him the first black character to be Spider-Man in the Marvel Comics universe. Morales, the son of an African-American father and Puerto Rican mother, has been featured as a version of Spider-Man for the past four years in Marvel’s ‘Ultimate’ offshoot. Brian Bendis, the co-creator of the character, states: “Many kids of colour who when they were playing superheroes with their friends, their friends wouldn’t let them be Batman or Superman because they don’t look like those heroes but they could be Spider-Man because anyone could be under that mask […] But now it’s true. It’s meant a great deal to a great many people.” Many comic fans are calling for Marvel and Sony to make Morales the masked hero in the upcoming Spiderman movie.
