feature: new app purchase black makes it easier to support black-owned businesses

January 19, 2016

The past year and half, since the murder of Mike Brown, has been pretty incredible in the way of persistent activism in the black community. From boycotting Black Friday altogether to disrupting the communities who are able to passively accept state sanctioned violence (among other things) while indulging in holiday “savings”, black people have been on top of it. And while we’re taking steps back from businesses who don’t support and respect our unique identities and struggles, we can and should be looking internally to support black business owners. PurchaseBlack, created by Brian A.M. Williams, is a new app that aims to make supporting those businesses easier. The app offers a curated marketplace, much like Amazon, that features practical products from black-owned businesses. The goal? To create a sustainable economy, by and for the people.

You can download PurchaseBlack on Android and iOS phones or shop the website!
