With the Black Lives Matter protests in full swing across the country, it becomes increasingly necessary for organic, honest representation of the protestors. The cruciality of fair coverage and documentation grows with the tyranny of mediums such as Fox news, and we need our artists on the ground to produce the truth. Philadelphia-based photographer Kasual Owens-Fields answers this need with her latest series: capturing the grass-roots efforts of the city protestors, and the humanity of their cause. In her subtly touching photographs, the feature of children pushes through the trajectory of modern, villainizing media and offers a glimpse of the backbone of the protests. With further incorporation of the protests’ diversity- from race, to age, to status- the meaning of their movement is translated universally. Check out more of her important series below.
