feature: “radical brownies are yelling ‘black lives matter,’ not hawking girl scout cookies”

February 18, 2015

Meet the Radical Brownies! The Oakland based youth activist organization. The Root reports that the organization was founded earlier this year by Marilyn Hollinquest and her friend Anayvette Martinez after Martinez’s daughter, Coatlupe, wanted to join a girls group. Inspired by the Black Panthers (berets et all), these girls are helping to spread the message that Black and Brown Lives Matter!. Their facebook page – which has received over 10,000 likes – states that the Radical Brownies seeks to “empower young girls of color so that they step into their collective power, brilliance and leadership in order to make the world a more radical place.” Read more on these inspiring girls here.
